What projects are you currently working on?
I just finished the Passion University Tour last month with Charlie Hall and Kristian Stanfill and am currently working with Matt Redman and John Mark McMillan. Also, gearing up for Passion 2012 in Atlanta at the Georgia Dome.
What consoles do you use?
Avid SC48 and Profile.
Are you using any plugins on wedges / in-ears?
I like having a C4 and L2 in the chain for in-ears. I feel like the L2 makes everything seem closer to the musician. Ghost notes and light picking seem to come through a bit more with the L2.
What are your favorite Waves plugins?
Lately I have been using the CLA-76 Blacky on toms and kick and the Bluey on snare. That compressor really makes drums sound massive. The CLA-3A is king on bass, and I have it on electric and acoustic guitars as well.
As far as main outs… it's C4 and L2. The C4 keeps everything in control and the L2 fills everything out.
What are some of the advantages of Waves plugins?
The way Waves integrates with Avid's Venue line of desks is brilliant. With the limited DSP of an SC48, I find myself using Waves compression and the onboard EQ on one input, and on the next input Waves EQ and onboard comp. Using Waves in conjunction with the existing processing, all in the box is efficient and effective.
Are you recording or virtual sound-checking the shows?
Yes, I use virtual sound-check whenever I can.
What do you see as your main goal for the audience?
Achieving a sound quality that rivals the album recording of the artist and reaching high volume with minimal ear fatigue.
